Hello My Inner Child

"Maybe we should develop a Crayola bomb as our next secret weapon. A happiness weapon. A beauty bomb. And every time a crisis developed, we would launch one. It would explode high in the air - explode softly - and send thousands, millions, of little parachutes into the air. Floating down to earth - boxes of Crayolas. And we wouldn't go cheap, either - not little boxes of eight. Boxes of sixty-four, with the sharpener built right in. With silver and gold and copper, magenta and peach and lime, amber and umber and all the rest. And cover the world with imagination."

-Robert Fulghum

I never saw this quote until yesterday. I had to read it a couple of times.

This quote made me ask myself what are some of the good things that I have held onto as a child. I will proudly announce that I let my inner child out quite frequently.

I enjoy watching nature. I like to watch funny movies. I like to sing. I sometimes eat pop tarts for breakfast or pancakes for dinner (only at ihop). I think sunrises and sunsets are hopes and promises. I look at the clouds and see so many creations. I use to wish on falling stars.

It is not silly to do such things. It is refreshing to tap into the innocent spirit that has become trampled on by adulthood. All that creativity and pure love that still resides in all of us.

Have you ever met someone who is serious about everything? They do not joke around. They do not smile. They find it much more easy to frown. They see only using and taking from one another. They do not want to share unless they receive more. Free-spirited people are few and far in between. Of course we need balance. We still must keep to our responsibilities and tasks but just every now and then let your inner child out for some fresh air. It would help to make our world much nicer.

Generosity Goes a Long Way

This story happened in the past, but I wanted to share what happened to me on this day. Thanks for reading!

Recently I went to McDonald's to get something to eat off the dollar menu. I got at the very end of a long line at the drive thru and began my long wait.

The line was getting longer and longer. One single line. Only there was another entrance to the drive-thru, this one closer up. You could probably guess what was gonna happen next...

Yep. Someone came along and formed a NEW line as an offshoot to our line. Never mind that most of us had been waiting for the better part of 5 minutes at this point. Because this wise guy had found the super-secret OTHER entrance, he got to break in line in front of everyone, at least that was his intention.

It was up to me to let him in or not, since the three cars in front of me refused to. I figured I had a choice. I could let him in or I could leave him there. I really should take a stand, make him wait until his rightful spot in line. I really should. It was up to all of us to stand up to him.

What did I do?

I caved. I. let. him. in... ugh. how could I?!

But I grumbled under my breath the entire time.

What's WRONG with people? I was wondering why everyone but me seems to be so darn selfish. It's just so rude. I just shook it off, placed my order, and proceeded to the window. I was determined not to let some line-breaker ruin my day.

When I got to the window to pay, the employee was smiling. "You can go on to the next window," she said. "The customer in line in front of you paid for your order and said thanks for letting him in."

WOW. WHAT!? What just happened here?

I was stunned! I kept staring at this woman like I was stupid. I had no idea what to say! I'd been chiding myself for always doing the nice thing and being too scared to take a stand and look what had happened. Someone had actually thanked me by doing something nice in return.

It completely turned my mood around. What I did next was completely irrelevant haha.

But anyways, saying "Thanks!" and giving the courtesy wave is one thing, we all kind of expect that; but paying for someone else's meal really goes out of their way to show their appreciation for your actions.
I've should've order something more extravagant than the dollar menu! lol
